In our pilot episode, we introduce ourselves and talk about the Delightfully Bold Life and how it came to be. After discussing DBL and what we hope our listeners will gain from tuning in to our parenting (but not a how-to) podcast. We played a few quick rounds of the Newlywed Game.
Don’t have time to listen? You can read a brief summary below.
What is Delightfully Bold Life and how did it come to be?
The Delightfully Bold Life blog started as an outlet to process my experiences as a parent. DBL started as a blog of stories or projects with short reflections that provided personal take aways from memorable moments as a parent. After many discussions with Matt, we both felt charged to share our experiences with others.
What is the DBL Midweek Podcast?
The podcast is meant to be an encouraging easy 30 minute-(ish) listen for parents or people that have friends with kids. We will share our successful and unsuccessful moments as parents hoping to entertain you and remind you that you’re most definitely not alone as you try and navigate parenthood. There’s so much content in various forms of media claiming that there is a right way to parent. These “how-to’s” add a ridiculous amount fo stress and unattainable expectations for us as parents. This same content that everyone scrolls through (old and young) also allows individuals on the outside of your life to make superficial judgements about your actions. DBL Midweek is not a “how to” podcast. In fact, you will probably get answers to questions you didn’t ask and learn things you didn’t want to know. Nevertheless, we strive to encourage parents to live joyfully and even through the tough stuff, we can always remember that our hope, our confidence, our strength comes from God.
What is Date Night?
We discuss spending time together as a couple. February is a busy month filled with baseball, birthdays, and more and it’s easy to let one on one time together or even scheduled date nights slip away. We believe that spending time one on one is crucial to reconnect with one another after or even during a busy week. Date night may not happen once a week, but we do agree that at least once a month we should have a designated “date night.” Some nights may not be a formal “date night” but they will make time to play their favorite card game Guess Who after the kids have gone to sleep to reconnect after a busy day or week.
Valentine’s Day Plans
Valentine’s is not one of our favorite holidays, but we do like to take the time to celebrate it. Last year, I ordered a charcuterie board from a friend and we enjoyed snacking and creating fun food combinations during our lunch together. This year, Matt crossed an item off a “bucket list” of mine. Do you remember the intro and outro of “Two Weeks Notice”? Sandra Bullock orders chinese takeout for herself and it’s a large order for one person. At the end of the movie she is ordering a takeout for both herself and her love interest, Hugh Grant. The movie left such a huge impression on me, that I’ve always wanted to eat chinese food directly out of the takeout container (sounds so silly). Well this year, Matt made that happen. He ordered pint size take out containers and we made homemade chinese food and enjoyed our cooking shows on the couch. It wasn’t a fancy meal out, but it was exactly what we needed.
The Newlywed Game Questions
We wrapped up our first ever episode with a quick game of the Newlywed Game. While there were no winners (or losers) we definitely had fun! Below are the questions mentioned in the podcast. Quiz your spouse and see how well they know you!
Questions
- If I knew I was dying tomorrow, what is my last meal?
- If I was a character from Mario Kart, who would I be?
- If I were a Disney character, who would I be?
- Where is my dream vacation spot?
- What is my most annoying habit?
- What’s my favorite food item to make?
That’s a Wrap!
Thanks for listening to our first episode of the Delightfully Bold Life Midweek Podcast! Tune in next week to listen to us discuss introducing our kids of organized sports.
