Another Easter has come and gone. As I collect my home decor to pack up for next year, I couldn’t help but reflect on just how wonderful Easter is. What a time to celebrate Jesus, his life, death and resurrection, and God’s fulfillment of His promise of an everlasting life with Him! It’s humbling.
This year, as our kids began to bring home Easter goodies loaded with sugary treats, we were desperate to find alternative goodies to fill our Easter eggs at home. I refused to buy more bags of candy (I just got rid of our Halloween candy from last year) that will end up being eaten by Matt and me. So this year I decided to try something different – Easter coupons!
A Healthy Easter Egg Filler
Before I designed my coupon template on Canva, Matt and I brainstormed alternative “treats” or activities that our entire family could participate in. As we created a list of some of our kids favorite activities we asked ourselves the questions below to pick our coupon items:
- What activities do we wish we did more of with our kids?
- What everyday activities can we enhance with minimal effort?
- What costs would be associated with the activities we choose?
- How quickly can our kids “redeem” the coupons?
We were hoping these coupons would accomplish two things for our family…
- Encourage us to intentionally spend more time with our kids doing an activity
- Keep our kids excited about spending time together as a family
As a family of 5, it’s very easy to slip into really monotonous and easy nighttime habits when the kids get home from school. We get home from school, clean up, do homework and usually put on a show or movie and then bath, books, and bed. We wanted these coupons to remind us to make a conscious effort to give ourselves time to try a new or different activity and spend quality time with our kiddos.
Family Activity Time
We began by selecting 5-6 activities we could commit to carrying our within one evening. Some of those were:
- Movie Theatre Night – Grab a projector and string some christmas lights in a dark room and you’ve turned a regular movie watching evening into a Movie Theatre.
- Ice Cream Night – Ice cream is a regular dessert for us, but toppings are a special treat. Get your family some of your favorite sprinkles, sauces and candies and go crazy.
- Play date – set up a play date with a new friend. This isn’t just for the kids, it’s for you to meet new mom and dad friends too!
- Surprise – think of activities that would bring a smile to your kiddos face. The “surprise” factor goes a long way, sometimes that’s half the fun!
Then we made sure that while they were hunting for eggs there were two “golden” eggs with larger prizes/treats. This year we chose:
- SeaWorld Day
- Yes Day
Easter Egg Coupons for Days!
Here are a few of the coupons we chose this year. Each of the boys kept a small pile of them in their room and could redeem one every other week.
You pick the best frequency for your family!

Create Your Own Coupons
You can create your own coupons in PowerPoint or Canva.
PowerPoint – Simply select a background for the slide and add three to six rounded square shapes to the page. Use icons or images for each coupon so your kids can identify the item without reading it.
Canva – Start with a blank document, add your Easter background, create your boxes and start labeling them with your coupons! You can download my template below!
